I already have a Western Union profile. Do I need to create a separate account for the wallet?

If you’re already registered with Western Union, you do not need to create a separate account for the wallet. Simply do the following:

  1. Log into your Western Union profile.
  2. Select Get a wallet
  3. Follow the instructions to complete the registration.

Once you have entered the required information, your wallet will replace your existing Western Union profile.

How do I sign up for the wallet?

 

To sign up for the Western Union wallet, you’ll need to enter the following details as they appear in your government-issued ID:

  • Your first and last name
  • Your Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)
  • Your date of birth
  • Your address

You’ll also need to verify your identity with one of the following:

  • Your passport
  • Your driver’s license
  • Your national ID
  • Your Instituto Federal Electoral (Mexico)
  •  Your Matricula Consular (Mexico)

 

How do I send money from my Western Union wallet?

After  you have added money to your wallet, you can send money to a bank account, for cash pickup, to another Western Union wallet, or any other delivery  method available in the selected receiver’s country. To send money, just select Send at the bottom of the screen, Quick Send or tap one of your contacts and follow the instructions to complete your transaction. 

 

What is the Western Union Visa® Card?

When you open a Western Union wallet, you will be issued a separate, but linked, card account and a Western Union Visa Card (which accesses the card account. The card account will be linked to your wallet and when you use your Western Union Visa Card, funds will be transferred from your Western Union wallet to the card account to fund the card transaction. 

With your Western Union Visa Card, you will be able to shop everywhere Visa debit cards are accepted (e.g., online or in store) and withdraw cash from supported ATMs. 

The separate, but linked, card account and the Western Union Visa Card are issued by our bank partner, Pathward®, National Association.

 

Do I earn any interest with my wallet?

No, you do not earn interest on your wallet balance.

How can I store more currencies in my wallet?

When you sign up for the premium wallet you can add up to 5 currencies from the below list.  The premium wallet subscriptions costs $4.99/month and comes with other benefits listed on our website here. Additional currencies can be added to your premium wallet for $1/month per currency.

What is the difference between a virtual and physical Western Union Visa Card?

When you sign up for a Western Union wallet you will receive a free* virtual Western Union Visa Card automatically. Subject to applicable fees, physical cards are available on request at any time through the Website, App, or by contacting our customer care team. 

The virtual and physical cards are both funded in the manner described above but without the physical card you won’t have access to certain wallet features, like making in store purchases or ATM withdrawals.

How do I add money to my wallet?

On the main dashboard, select Add Money then choose the payment method (debit card, credit card*, bank account or redirect a money transfer that has been sent to you) and follow the instructions. 
 
Please note availability times differ based on the payment method. 
 
 *If you are using a credit card, a card-issuer cash advance fee and associated interest charges may apply.

How can I get my welcome bonus?

When you add 100 USD or more for the first time to your wallet, you’ll get a 5 USD bonus. The bonus will automatically be added to your wallet.
